Heteronuclear Cooper Pairs in An Ultracold Atomic Gas
In an ultracold mixture of two different Fermi species of atoms, Cooper pairs can be formed between two different atoms. The masses of one atom and its partner in this kind of Cooper pairs may differ by order of magnitude. In this system, each species of atoms are in the same atomic spin state and two species have the same atomic densities. The pairing gap diminishes if two species have differe...
متن کاملObservation of quantum-measurement backaction with an ultracold atomic gas
Current research on micromechanical resonators strives for quantum-limited detection of the motion of macroscopic objects. Prerequisite to this goal is the observation of measurement backaction consistent with quantummetrology limits. However, thermal noise currently dominates measurements and precludes ground-state preparation of the resonator. Here, we establish the collective motion of an ul...
متن کاملMeasuring the superfluid fraction of an ultracold atomic gas.
We propose a method to measure the superfluid fraction of an atomic gas. The method involves the use of a vector potential generated by optical beams with nonzero angular momenta to simulate uniform rotation. The induced change in angular momentum of the atomic gas can be measured spectroscopically. This allows a direct determination of the superfluid fraction.

متن کاملDynamics of a trapped ultracold two-dimensional atomic gas
This article is devoted to the study of two-dimensional Bose gases harmonically confined. We first summarize their equilibrium properties. For such a gas above the critical temperature, we also derive the frequencies and the damping of the collective oscillations and we investigate its expansion after releasing of the trap. The method is well suited to study the collisional effects taking place...
